can I fit a caravan mover to my caravan?
It is possible to fit a Caravan mover to most models built after mid 1991. We normally advise customers to use Reich Comfort Mover as they are a tried and tested design and their size allows a strengthening sub-frame to be fitted to the chassis. The strengthening sub-frame should be fitted as this is required to preserve the integrity of the structure of the chassis.
These units allow the caravan to be moved easily at the touch of a button. The rollers can be engage quickly from either side of the caravan with a standard corner steady brace, but can be engaged and disengaged quickly by an optional electric ‘Motor Drive’ kit to and easily from the caravan wheels.
The work involved in fitting a caravan mover system differs with the various models as can been seen below:
NB: We now fit the Reich 4 motor Twin Axle Comfort Mover to our 182/184 models. On some models (depending on the year of manufacture) we may have to move the under slung water tank back a few inches?
We can fit Truma or Power Touch movers if you prefer please contact us for further details
1991 models (build No. 97) and earlier
We can and have carry out the necessary chassis modification to earlier models before fitting caravan movers. However, some earlier models had lighter section chassis and A-frame was used in their construction,
a-frame and axle changes may be required in addition the chassis modification?

1991 models (build No. 98) to and including 1996 models
The chassis upgrade is available but we recommend that if the ‘A’ frame has not already be upgraded that it is prior to a caravan mover being fitted. The original ‘A’ Frame was made from 60mm x 40mm section. The new ones are made from 75mm x 50mm section and importantly have a different fixing detail which further adds to their strength.
Please note pre ’93 caravans have a maximum gross weight of 1300kg and the total weight of the upgrade is 50kg (the movers weigh approximately 30kg and the sub frame around 20kg), so make sure there is sufficient payload available. We will not be held responsible for checking weights and payloads etc.
You must be satisfied that with the mover and chassis upgrade fitted you have sufficient free payload for your own requirements.
NB! Please do not think that there is a margin of tolerance built into the chassis and under gear and that you can run over the 1300kg payload. If you do this you will find that the stub axles bend. We have known a number of instances where this has happened and this causes the brake drums to rub on the back plates and needless to say has significant safety implications, also the police are getting even more vigilant at checking weights etc. so please check you have sufficient payload or be prepared to upgrade the axle which overcomes the problem.
1997 models to 1999 models
Caravan Movers will fit to these models and they do not need an A-Frame upgrade as the larger sectioned ‘A’ frames were used on those models, but you do need to have the additional sub frame fitted.
2000 models and onwards
Caravan Movers will fit without any chassis alterations but it does require 2 purpose made bolt on brackets that we supply and fit when we install the unit.
What does the work involve?
On pre 2000 caravans a lot more work is required; firstly we remove the axle and front chassis member. Then we make a new sub-frame, which includes a new front cross member, and brackets for fitting the caravan mover, the sub-frame is then fitted and welded into place after the original galvanizing to the weld areas has been removed. It is then painted with a coat of red oxide followed by aluminium paint. The axle is then refitted and the caravan mover is fitted. We also reposition the spare wheel if required and relocate the gas pipes if required. We then apply a coat of “Dinitrol” (an excellent rust proofing system) to the sub-frame.
On 2000 models and newer caravans the work is usually relatively simple; We fabricate and fit 2 purpose made brackets and then the caravan mover fits straight onto these, in some instances we do need to reroute the gas pipes etc. we then fit the electrics and box in the control unit, which normally fits under one of the front beds, so everything looks nice and neat inside the caravan.
Important Note for all 1997 and earlier models
On a limited number of caravans (usually pre 1998 models) we have found it necessary to reinforce the front of the caravan. If it does prove necessary to fit this reinforcing during or after the fitting of the caravan mover, this work will be charged in addition to the cost of fitting the caravan mover.
In Conclusion
Fitting a caravan mover makes levelling, hitching up, and manoeuvring the caravan a real pleasure, as the caravan can be easily moved with the touch of a button to exactly where you want it, including running one wheel up a levelling block. If you would like an estimate to fit this system to your caravan please do not hesitate to contact us.
